  • Heading to Manhattan? My favorite find...Hotel 31, 120 East 31st St in New York City. Not fancy, but clean, convenient to the subway and reasonably priced.

  • Get the kids to eat veggies! Works every time, chop raw carrots into tiny mini chopper pieces and mix into macoroni and cheese. My teens love it to this day! Caution: broccoli won't work;  carrots are orange, so is the sauce -- great camouflage for young children.

  • Best way to clean a lampshade! Just use a sticky tape lint brush.

  • Great item! Kiwi Express leather shoe shine sponges. found in many stores in RI, polishes shoes instantly. Comes in clear, black and brown. I found mine at Bob's in Warwick in a three pack.

  • Hot Recipe! Walk into the house from a chilly game to a nutritous hot dinner ready to serve from the Crock Pot ....

    Prep: 20 min
Cook low 9 hours; high 4 1/2 hours
    Makes 6 servings
Use 3 1/2-4 quart Slow Cooker
From Better Homes and Gardens, Slow Cooker Recipes

    Italian Round Steak
1 1/2 pounds boneless beef bottom round steak
    2 medium carrots, 1/2" pieces
    2 stalks celery, 1/2" pieces
    1 cup sliced fresh mushrooms
    1/2 cup sliced onions
1 14.5 oz can Italian style stewed tomatoes
    1 cup beef broth
1/2 cup dry red wine, white wine, or beef broth
    3 tbls quick-cooking tapioca
    1 tsp dried Italian seasoning
    1/2 tsp salt
    1/4 tsp pepper
    1 bay leaf
    3 cups hot noodles

Directions: Trim fat from meat, cut into 1" cubes. Transfer meat to slow cooker. Add carrots, celery, mushrooms, onions, undrained tomatoes, beef broth, wine, tapioca, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and bay leaf. Slow cook naturally tenderizes meat. Tips: store-bought gravy packets work well; spices make all the taste difference!
